I am currently fascinated with matter at the verges of everyday perception.
A light switch, a drainpipe, a doorstop or the bumper of a truck: Objects from the milieu of the rational line the ways of urban life. These forms, carelessly multiplied by human hands, fulfill their purpose at close range to us, while at the same time maintaining a respectful distance to the reality of our lives. Being in a world populated by profane and distant matter is an alienating experience.
I try to counter this experience with a transformative gaze and to reanimate the lifeless through enchantment. The process gives rise to creatures that are reminiscent of cuddly toys or dolls and encounter the viewer in interactive situations.
It is difficult to categorize them clearly; they oscillate between sculpture, jewelry and installation. As protagonists of an ambiguous narrative, they populate a space in which the barriers between the pragmatic, the sacred and the broken, between the lifeless and the animated are dissolved.
The encounter with the works is intended to be playful and often involves interaction, for example through manipulable movements or sound.
As a trained goldsmith, I always come back to my roots. The body-related, decorative object meets other media such as sound or light. In an installative spatial context or through performative actions, a network is created whose nodes I trace in a sense of serious play.
